Tracking the reduction in E. coli counts

The Rand Water Weekly Water Quality Report, is done by conducting water analyses at 10 different points on the Vaal River – this is reflected below.

The weekly tracking will indicate how the interventions conducted by ERWAT are having on the water quality in the Vaal River.

As seen in the Water Quality Report below, the water quality along the Vaal river, differs tremendously.  There are three points that regularly have excessively high E. coli levels, firstly the mouth of the Klip, secondly just down-stream of the Klip and thirdly the mouth of the Rietspruit.  The other 7 water quality points usually have acceptable water quality levels reflected by Rand Water.  That is why many people who visit resorts on the Vaal, see acceptable looking water and people frequently partaking in water sports, healthy fish and flourishing bird life. This does exist at most of the 56km where the water quality is monitored – as per Rand Water’s analysis and reflection on their website www.reservoir.co.za.
